Consulting

Welcome.

I’m Tammy and I’m glad you’re here!

And since you are, I imagine you’ve wondered about your relationship to money.

Why is our relationship with money the way it is (estranged, distant, self-sabotaging, etc)? What parts of our past are inhibiting us from having a healthy relationship to and with money? How can we engage our money with more confidence and less insecurity?

If so, you’re in the right place!

I offer a free 15-minute discovery call

We all process our trauma and put it onto things outside of ourselves: food, sex, alcohol, tv bingeing, drugs, etc.

We also do it with money. We numb, we hide, we mask, we dismiss, we avoid, we buy more than we need, we withhold from ourselves – all in an attempt to fill a void that can never be filled by money.

I noticed this in my own relationship to money. There were seasons where I was overspending, trying to fill my own void that would never be filled by purchasing “stuff.”

The tricky part was that I wasn’t even aware I was trying to fill a void.

I’ve had other seasons of my life where I severely under spent, where I was withholding from myself, dismissing my needs, not trusting I would have enough.

In hindsight, I learned either way was a form of disconnection from self, creating distance in intimate relationships around me.

I invite people into a conversation around the intersection of money and psychology:

How does our story impact our relationship to money?

I combine the worlds of psychology and money to illuminate what’s happening below the surface and explore why fights about money are rarely about money.

I am currently a licensed mental health counselor (MA, LMHC) and a former licensed financial planner with CPA background. I engage these two areas, playing in the intersection, helping to unpack and discover what parts of our story are being played out in our relationship with money.

Who you are / who I work with:

  • CURIOUS: You are curious about yourself and why you are the way you engage or avoid issues about money, why you do certain things, and why you have certain patterns in your relationship to money.
  • OBSERVANT (or want to be): You’ve noticed that you have patterns in your relationship with money.
  • RESPONSIBLE: You are responsible, take responsibility for yourself, your emotions around money and your actions with money.
  • SELF-REFLECTION: You have the capacity for self-reflection around this and other topics.
  • DESIRE TO KNOW YOURSELF: You desire to know yourself better, specifically around your relationship to money. In relationships, you desire to not lose yourself, not feel chaotic or lost, desire to no longer people-please when there’s tension with money.
  • AUTHENTIC: You desire to be more authentic and vulnerable in relationships, you’re just not sure what that means yet.
  • INTIMACY: You long to experience more intimacy – financially, as well as verbally, emotionally, sexually and intellectually.
  • DESIRE CONNECTION: You want to deepen and strengthen your ability to be in intimate, attuned and connected relationships and not have money be such a source of conflict and tension.
  • ADULT: You are a high-functioning adult who senses that perhaps your life story has impacted current presenting issues in life around money.

All ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identifications, and faith orientations are welcome.

My Specialty

Financial conflict resolution and communication

As a former licensed financial adviser with a CPA background, I’ve worked with individuals and couples for over 25 years around finances.

The emotional side of finances:

  • How do I engage (or avoid) my finances?
  • Do I constantly feel there’s not enough?
  • Am I consistently overspending?
  • What am I wanting or needing from money that may be about my story, my past and perhaps my trauma?
  • Do I find my worth in the car I drive or the house I own?
  • Do I need things to feel accomplished and successful?
  • Is there a void I am trying to fill by making purchases?
  • Why do my partner/spouse and I always fight around money? I feel like we have the same argument over and over.

The logistics and organization of finances:

  • How organized are they?
  • How on track am I?
  • Do I live within my means? If not, why not and how can I get to where I want to be?
  • Am I constantly living in a place of chaos with money?
  • Do I never know how much I have or where all my money is?

What you’ll get out of our work together

As a result of working together, my clients have noticed:

  • Improved communication
  • Greater understanding of money and their relationship to it

  • More ability to minimize tension in relationships because of increased
self awareness and healthier communication styles

“Working with Tammy was an impactful investment that made a huge difference in my understanding of my relationship to money. Before working with her, I had very little knowledge about how my story contributed to my relationship with money. Throughout our time together, Tammy helped me grow and gave me an invaluable education that I will have for the rest of my life. Her incredible gifts of finance and psychology are so unique and incredibly helpful. All my relationships benefit from this investment I made into myself.”

    Joy

“Tammy has been instrumental in helping to establish a deeper understanding of myself and my story. Tammy has helped me develop my awareness around how my story has shaped and impacted how I manage my money and why I sometimes experience conflict with others around money. She has been pivotal in providing information that would have eluded me if not for her background and knowledge of finance and psychology. My relationships have flourished now that I understand myself better around issues related to money. ”

    Catherine

“After working with Tammy, I have more confidence about the fundamentals and framework of money and how what was modeled for me as a child impacted my fear and avoidance of money. Tammy’s generous spirit and supportive coaching style has sown the seeds for ensuring growth and healing, so I can continue to live the life I have always wanted and to have peace in my relationship to money.”

    Amanda

“After my first conversation with Tammy, I left feeling energized and excited.  Several months later, I still feel it was the best decision I made to help grow and heal in my relationship with money. I admire her deep drive to help others. Tammy does not do all the talking.  Her ability as a coach shows up most powerfully in the way she asks questions, listens with great patience, and reflects great compassion. As someone who came to her with zero awareness of how my story was impacting my decisions around money, I am deeply grateful for her. Working with her is the best investment you can make. I cannot recommend Tammy enough!”

    Danielle

“Working with Tammy was very helpful. Her unique blend of financial and therapeutic education allows her to be a relatable and knowledgeable guide. Tammy’s down-to-earth personality enabled me to automatically feel comfortable asking questions and adjust the pace to my needs, depending on the topic. I feel I have come out of the process with a better self-understanding, feeling empowered to consider financial decisions with confidence and peace.”

    Katie

    Suzanne

“As a longtime entrepreneur in the field of psychotherapy, I knew my way around a lot of financial and psychological considerations, but Tammy was still SUPER helpful to me, especially with all my blind spots. I left my meetings with Tammy energized and imaginative about my future, with a solid sense of how my relationship with money came to be and how I could heal and grow. I highly recommend Tammy to you!”

    • You can ask me questions you might have about the process

    • If we’re a good fit, we’ll move forward by talking logistics, payment and scheduling
    If we’re a good fit, what’s next?

If we both decide we’re a good fit after our discovery call together, we’ll:

    • Schedule several sessions and find a spot on the calendar that works for you weekly
    • I’ll email you a few disclosure forms that need to be completed electronically (they only take a few minutes) before our first session.

Ever felt like you are spinning in mentally in an attempt to understand yourself, why you do what you do? Or trying to understand another – a conversation or why someone ghosted you or said what they said about money?

    • From chaotic to grounded.
    • From confused to understanding.
    • From stuck to unstuck.
    • From feeling lost to found.

If so, you’re in the right place. Please fill out the application to get started. I look forward to connecting with you in our free 15-minute discovery call.

    How often will we meet?

There is a min of three sessions and a max of twelve sessions for consulting. Most clients find it helpful to meet weekly, working together for three months or less.

    What’s the first meeting like?

The first session will be us getting the lay of the land, so to speak. You’ll be invited to share more about your relationship to money and the conflict you’re experiencing (is it internal, only with yourself? Is it external, in one or more of your relationships with loved ones? Have you noticed patterns? etc).

We’ll discuss your goals for our work together and create a road map for our time together.

My stance is nonjudgmental and I do not hold you in contempt for choices you have made. I want to understand your goals and desires, to ensure we are caring for them and working towards them.

We have limited time together so we will most likely be working hard in our time together; however, I also believe that healing and growing can be fun and playful. We may find ourselves laughing hysterically over something really fun, or sitting in a moment of grief as we acknowledge and process a deep loss you’ve experienced. Both are welcome and healing.

    Do you have a waitlist?

Yes. If there are no openings that align with your schedule, please let me know and I would be happy to add you to the waitlist with specifics of certain times and days of the week that work best with your schedule.

What’s the difference between therapy and consulting?

There are several differentiating aspects, mainly around logistics.

Location – Therapists can only operate in a state where they are licensed. Consulting can occur across state lines and internationally.

Time – Most therapy work does not have a time limit. Patients can come in for one session or work with their therapist for years. They can take pauses and come back a significant time later. With consulting, we have a limited amount of time we can work together – minimum of three sessions and a max of twelve. Our goal is to help you discover the origin of your financial conflict in hopes of being able to take specific questions or areas of exploration back to your personal therapist or licensed financial planner.

Our work together is not clinical, although it may have parts of it that feel therapeutic and psychological. I work to create a platform for you to bring additional knowledge and understanding to your chosen financial planner or therapist. You and I will work together to help you develop a clearer understanding of how you engage with (or even avoid) money. We will work to identify specific agenda items for you to talk through with your financial planner or therapist to support them in more efficiently helping you to intimately work towards your financial goals – not against them. Specifically, that means we will meet via video conference for 60-minutes to discuss your relationship with money and areas you are curious about, are getting in the way, or you would like to see growth and change in.

While I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), the consultation services I offer are not counseling or psychotherapy, nor are these services intended as health care of any kind. In addition, these consulting services are not intended to diagnose or treat any physical or mental illness, dysfunction or condition, nor should they be considered a substitute for any healthcare services. Are there any risks with this type of consulting work?

Engaging the intersection of psychology and finances can have benefits and risks. The risks may include experiencing uncomfortable feelings like sadness, guilt, anger, anxiety, or frustration when discussing aspects of life. This type of explorative work has been shown to have benefits that can include better relationships, solutions to specific problems, increased life satisfaction, improved physical health, and significant reductions in feelings of distress. However, there are no guarantees as to what each client will experience.

    What is your cancellation policy?

The cancellation policy is 48 hours.

If you cancel outside of that time frame (i.e., hour 50) you are not charged. However, a 10% processing fee will be deducted from your refund.

If you need to cancel within 48 hours, one of your prepaid sessions will be applied to the missed session.

Unused sessions expire after six months. Refunds not available after this time and the fee is forfeited.
